Call for Speakers

The State of Now – Des Moines takes place Monday, April 23, 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa

The event explores the effects of social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and others) and the emerging real-time Internet on individuals, organizations and regions.  We want to know how the state of Now has connected you to the larger world, how it’s made a difference in your world too.

We are looking for passionate people to share their perspective, their experiences and their stories about how the real-time Internet is affecting their industry sectors and the people inside them.  This is not an event where your speaking trains someone listening on how to do something.  Your speaking at the State of Now is intended to share your story, move someone to see things just a little different, perhaps to move in another direction and try new things or to involve those around them to create a new thing in their lives.

Open for discussion are all platforms and applications which affect and contribute to the real-time Internet experience.

Areas covered at past #140Conf events include: Advertising / Analytics / Book Authors / Branding / Celebrity / Charity / Comic Books / Communications / Education / Entertainment / Fashion / Film / Food / Games / Journalism / Legacy / Location Based Services / Love & Romance / Marketing / Media / Music / News Gathering / Parenting / Public Policy / Politics / Public Diplomacy / Public Safety / Publishing / Real Estate / Social Change / Search / Story Telling / TV

The deadline for speaking proposals is: March 1, 2012.

The format is unique and fast-paced. Presentations are limited to 10-20 minutes each (no slide decks please), to allow as many people as possible to share their stories. We are seeking engaging, out-of-the-box characters who can relate their first hand accounts of the impact of the real-time Internet on industry sectors including business, agriculture, government, education, entertainment and non-profit.

The key to being selected to speak at #140Conf is to submit a speaking proposal which shares your passion about a topic and how it has been touched by the real-time web. Our goal is to bring together a curated group of individuals to both lead and contribute to the discussions. The take-aways from this event will provide the attending delegates knowledge, perspectives and insights into the next wave of effects that the real-time Internet will have on their work and personal lives.

We would appreciate your help in spreading awareness of the conference to the people who you are connected with on your social networks. We hope to bring together a gathering of people with a variety of backgrounds to explore together the future of where things are going and how to best prepare the community at large to get there.

If you are interested in speaking, please share your speaking proposal below.  Please remember, we’d like our speakers to be present for the day — and not just pop in, speak and leave.  Ticket holders are coming to see you and relish the opportunity to chat with you in the hallways, during lunch and after the event.
